The UTSA LMSA PLUS Chapter originates from the LMSA National & Regional Chapters. LMSA is a national organization that was founded in 1998 to “unite and empower current and future physicians through service, mentorship, and education to advocate for the improved health of the Hispanic & Latina/o/x community in the United States”.

Since the United States is vase and to increase their success as an organization based towards Latinos, they founded five regional organizations that separate the nations in regions. Find more information about the LMSA history here.
With that context, our UTSA LMSA PLUS Chapter is apart of the LMSA Southwest Region which primarily consists of LMSA medical school chapters (current medical students) that attend medical school and colleges in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The PLUS chapters (us) are pre-medical undergraduate chapters. This is a powerful and unique resource for pre-medical Latino students, as the Regional Board assists us in our journey towards medicine through annual conferences, panels, informational sessions, up-to-date news, and much more that you can learn about on their website **here. Again, we feel it’s important to educate you all on our chapter’s network as networking is vital to one’s journey in many ways - especially for those that identify as Latino.
